Facts in brief: The Gambian currency is non-convertible,
however within Gambia it is easy to exchange between foreign currency and local.
Their are no restrictions on the importation or export of local and foreign currency,
although it is advisable to present sums of over USD$10,000 to customs for declaration
purposes. The local currency, although in law there is no restriction to export,
is very difficult to export in amounts greater than GM10,000.00 as customs does
not have a declaration procedure in place for the local currency unit.
